This is a popular 4-way mod, retaining the traditional 3 position Telecaster sounds, but with an additional position putting the two single coils in series for a chunkier sound.
Components
Premium 250k CTS Potentiometers x 2, solid shaft with Vintage Audio Taper.
Oak 4 way lever switch – black switch knob is included.
Switchcraft Jack Socket.
Capacitor / Sprague Orange Drop or PIO Paper in Oil, Size 0.022uF or 0.047uF.
Tinned-copper “buss” ground wire.
Gavitt USA made cloth covered 22AWG wire.

Position 4 – Neck and bridge in series.
Position 3 – Neck pickup.

Treble Bleed Option
A Treble Bleed takes the high treble tone frequencies out of the circuit at the volume pot and puts them back in the circuit as the signal leaves the volume pot. The result is a smoothed out treble and a more uniform tone from 1 to 10. Reducing the treble drop out as the volume pot rolls off. If you like the idea of retaining treble as you roll your volume pot down, then a treble bleed is for you.
4 Way Switch / Neck pickup explained
Fitting a 4 way telecaster harness is a little different to a conventional 3 way telecaster harness. Its all about the Neck Pickup. The neck pickup may need modifying depending on how it has been made. If you are buying a neck pickup as part of your upgrade or build, you will need to make sure the Pickup has an additional earth wire, so there should be 3 wires coming from the pickup. If it is a standard two wire neck pickup, it will require an additional ground wire soldering on and the small ‘jumper’ wire removing which allows for the 4th series position to work.
Will this fit my guitar?
Our pre-wired Fender Telecaster Wiring harness is wired to fit genuine Fender USA / Mexican control plates. If installing into an imported model / DIY guitar kit you will need to ensure the Potentiometer holes on the control plate will take CTS pots (approx 10mm). This can be done using a round file or carefully with a 10mm drill. Please also check the 64mm measurement between the centre of volume pot to centre of tone pot, as a lot of imported models are 60mm. We can build the harness to 60mm for you, just let us know when you place order.

Centre of Switch to volume pot = 40mm.
Centre of volume pot to centre of tone pot = 64mm.

Making sure your Neck pickup has 3 wires correctly fitted. The Telecaster wiring harness with 4 way switch is one of the more simple harnesses to fit with just 6 wires to solder, 3 x ground and the 2 hot wires from the pickups and then 1 ground wire from the bridge. The additional ground wire from the Neck pickup goes to the switch, as does the 2 hot wires. The 2 other pickup ground wires go to the back of the Volume Potentiometer with the bridge ground wire. There is sometimes an additional ground wire from the body which you will need to solder to the back of the Volume Potentiometer.
