Humbucker Pickup Wire Colour Codes

So without further blur, Yes a lot of the pickup companies use different colour codes for there pickups and this includes Humbuckers with 4 contact wires.

So there is no continuity when it comes down to wire colours and the frustrating realities of pickup swapping. Different pickup manufacturers use different wire colour codes. You cannot simply replace your old pickup’s wires with your new pickup’s wires colour-for-colour.

So before you remove your pickups, here is an ABC of to do list

A. If you are just replacing a like for like wiring harness, then take a photo (or write down on a bit of paper) of the wires from your pickups and where they go to on the old wiring harness to go to the same location on the new harness.

B. If you are replacing the wiring harness and fitting new pickups, the new pickups normally have a wiring guide in the box showing you what colours go where.

C. If none of the above (A or B) you may need to contact the pickup manufacture or check out support on their website to gain the colour code information.
