Pickup Rewinds & Pickup Repairs
AxeKool Guitars offer an all encompassing pickup repair and rewind service. Once potted and covered, most pickups are sturdy & robust and will usually last as long as the guitar, but there are always exceptions to the rule, from breakage, beer, moisture and swapping pickups out from one guitar to another, can offend cause failure.
Pickups can be fixed and the process is something like the following:
We first check the pickup with a multi-meter, looking to check output and see whether there is anything obvious that is causing the pickup to fail. If there is no single and nothing obvious is found we start carefully inspect the pickup, looking for anything like breaks or shorts that could be causing the problem. During the inspection we would be taking careful notes of the layout of the pickup, the direction of the winding, all of which is vitally important for reassembly. If we find nothing fixable then we strip the wire away and measure its gauge with a micrometer. Armed with all this information we wind a new coil to the same specification.
Rewinds and repair can take as long, if not longer than new pickups to build.

We can rewind and repair most P90 coils and we keep a full stock of vintage and modern coil wires, hook-up cable and magnets.
Mini Humbuckers
We can rewind and repair a wide range of mini humbucker styles, including original Gibson and Hofner pickups. We keep a full stock of vintage-accurate coil wires and use traditional winding methods.
Bass Pickups
We can rewind a wide array of bass pickups, including common Jazz and Precision styles. We keep a full stock of vintage-accurate coil wires and use traditional winding methods.
Wax Potting
Wax potting can help to tame a pickup which has a feedback issue or is microphonic. Wax potting reduces unwanted mechanical vibration within the pickups components like screws, metal spacers, magnets and solidify the coils and help guard against microphonic feedback. Another good reason is to keep the moisture from penetrating the coil.
